Trip to Ironbridge

Date: 22nd Sep 2015 @ 7:33pm

Tuesday:  Everyone is very excited about setting off for our residential tomorrow (especially about how many sweets they can take!)  The weather looks set to be good and we hope to be posting photos on the blog when we can.We will arrive at Ironbridge shortly before lunchtime on Wednesday and once luggage and lunch has been dealt with, we will be off to Jackfield's Tile Museum for a workshop on designing and glazing a tile.  These will be fired at the Museum and delivered back to us at school within a couple of weeks, where they will hopefully be put on display.

Wednesday: We arrived at the Youth Hostel and after lunch, went off to the Tile Museum, where the chuildren were completely absorbed in the workshop, during which they designed their tile, added the slip and glaze, although they will have to wait until the tiles are fired and packaged off to us, to see the final result. we also visited the China Museum, learning how all the pots were fired in the giant sized kilns.

Thursday:  Another beautifully sunny day and we were off to Blists Hill Victorian Town to see all the shops and workshops, which proved to be fascinating for them all.  After exchanging their money into Victorian pennies and halfpennies, they were keen to see what their money would buy. They were all completely absorbed for the entire day.

Friday: Another sunny day saw us take a short coach trip down into Ironbridge itself and walk on to the famous bridge where we sat and sketched.

We were very proud of the children who attracted many compliments for their good manners and behaviour throughout their stay.  Thank you for lending them to us!  (There will be more photos to see in school.)
